NJGOP requests federal monitors amid disturbing reports out of Passaic County

Is the steal on in Passaic County?

That’s the concern, Save Jerseyans, so the New Jersey Republican State Committee (NJGOP) is asking the U.S. Department of Justice for assistance. The NJGOP’s request (by way of attorney Jason Sena of Archer & Greiner) comes after the county’s Democrats refused to assent to security cameras and a sign-in log for the county’s ballot storage rooms.

Paterson – the county’s most populous city – is particularly infamous for vote by mail irregularities. In an especially disturbing incident, in 2020, 3,190 of 16,747 ballots cast in the 2020 council election were disqualified and a new election was ordered by the court.

Republicans are raising the alarm ahead of what’s expected to be a close 2025 gubernatorial battle.

“In recent years, Passaic County has been home to infamous voter fraud schemes and among the slowest counties to count ballots and certify elections in the entire state,” NJGOP Chairman Glenn Paulsen said in a statement issued over the weekend. “Frankly, given that, the Passaic County Republican Party is justified in their suspicion about what happens outside of public view, and the NGOP stands firmly behind their legal demands for election integrity and transparency.”

The stakes are high since Passaic is North Jersey’s newest swing county. Ciattarelli fell short there by less than four points in 2021; last year, President Trump narrowly carried the county – 49.6% to 46.8% – due in part to his strong performance with non-white voters.
