Talk about a vote of no confidence!
There’s a clown car Democrat Primary underway to succeed Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill in the 11th Congressional District, and Governor Phil Murphy is endorsing Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill. That’s not too surprising since Gill was once Murphy’s campaign manager (way back in 2017). But here’s the wild part:
Murphy’s own Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way is a candidate in NJ-11.
Can you imagine Donald Trump not endorsing JD Vance? Joe Biden not backing Kamala Harris? Of course not. It’d be interpreted for what it was… a massive slight by a principal against his number two. The governor is essentially saying “the woman I selected to be my backup isn’t up to snuff.”
Here’s the formal endorsement:
Proud to endorse Essex County Commissioner @BrendanWGill for Congress.
Brendan is the leader we need in DC to help lower costs, build Gateway, and protect our freedoms. pic.twitter.com/hOM1EvhrG5
