Long Clean-Up Ahead in Storm-Ravaged Atlantic County (VIDEO)

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Atlantic County’s 275k residents this morning, Save Jerseyans. They were hardest hit by Friday night’s devastating thunder storms.

From Camco, I could see the near-constant lightening coming from the East for hours straight. It looked less like a storm and more like a bombing raid!

Atlantic City Electric reports over 200,000 in South Jersey are still without power this morning. Governor Chris Christie consequently declared a state of emergency in Atlantic, visited on Saturday and arranged for the Nat’l Guard to deliver fuel and food to affected residents. Stores and gas stations are out of supplies; cooling centers and water distribution centers have been established since the water supply is, in some place, unreliable at the moment. That said, the Governor doesn’t expect power to be fully restored until at least sometime Wednesday – the 4th of July. He’s also advising residents to stay of the roads unless it’s necessary to travel because downed trees blocking roads have led to epic traffic jams.

So why was this thunderstorm so devastating? I’m no meteorologist, but most of the storm system’s victims reported higher-than-normal winds in excess of 75 mph. Judging by the images contained in this video that I found on YouTube, folks, it certainly supports the theory that “weak” tornadoes or a “land” hurricane struck at the heart of the Boardwalk Empire:
