Save Jerseyans, it’s not often that I encourage casting a write in vote in the general election. However, as I stated here back in June, I was not happy with the crop of candidates in the 9th Congressional District. They ranged from pathetic (Michael Agosta) to an outright joke (John Aslanian). Therefore, once it came time to vote in the primary, I wrote in ’06 and ’08 GOP Congressional candidate, Vince Micco.
I’ve always liked Vince and never thought he got the party support he deserved. I always felt he had great potential as a candidate and had he received the funding necessary to wage a competitive campaign against Rep. Steve Rothman, he could have posed the first real threat Rothman had ever really seen in what is generally a safe district. Needless to say, at a time when an anti-incumbent sentiment is dominating congressional races across the country, I was disappointed when I didn’t see Vince’s name on the ballot again this time around. That however, did not stop me from voicing my displeasure at the horrible choices we had in the congressional primary in June. Therefore, I wrote Vince’s name in since I felt he was still the best candidate the district had to offer.
To all my fellow 9th Congressional District Save Jerseyans out there, I am normally against taking such action since I don’t believe in throwing away your vote in futility. However, in this case, GOP congressional nominee Michael Agosta IS a futile candidate and this race is already lost. He was never a good candidate and the fact that he even got the Bergen and Hudson County lines at all is merely a testament to how miserable the rest of the field was. Therefore, it’s time to make your vote matter. I ask that you show your support for a good man. That man is Vince Micco.
Vince is a devoted family man who is also devoted to serving his country. It was his current military duties that kept him from running this year. However, if Vince gets a good amount of write in votes in November, it could very well make a strong case for him as a 2012 candidate when the Presidential election rolls around.
Michael Agosta may have already lost before campaign season even had a chance to start, but that doesn’t mean we have to lose with him. Let’s start thinking long term and get the wheels in motion for ’12 by writing in Vince Micco for Congress.
VOTE VINCE ON NOV. 2ND!
