How the Mighty (in Bergen) Have Fallen

Bergen County, a recent Democrat stronghold, has clearly undergone a total transformation in more recent years. A lot of that transformation does not necessarily have to do with perfect candidates coming out of the GOP (although the candidates elected last year certainly are great), but perhaps more so with the lack of leadership and direction in the Democrat party up there. With the departure of Ferriero and more recent leadership turnover (Kasparian), the party is in shambles. Falling apart at a rate few would have expected.

There are a few Democrats attempting to claw their way back to the top, but fortunately they seem to lack the vision and know-how to formulate a winning message. One of those Democrats is Assemblywoman Connie Wagner, who chose to take her opinion to all 22 of her followers on Twitter yesterday. Apparently a big issue for Wagner is that the Bergen GOP has selected two of their candidates for the Bergen Freeholder Board, and they both happen to be from Franklin Lakes.

Really? This is what you are working with? What a lame argument. There is nothing in these two candidates that you could pick on as being questionable other than the fact that they come from the same  beautiful town? I have been in politics long enough to know that there must be something worth tweeting about rather than their shared zip code. But then again, if Assemblywoman Wagner cannot be bothered to do any homework (or at least dig up some ambiguous fact or anecdote to fabricate in a futile attempt to sway voters) then that is fine with me. Its just another example of the failed party in Bergen sinking a bit further.

And you know, Save Jerseyans, this makes me think about another residency issue regarding a famous Bergen “resident.” If we want to get technical about where people live and whether that adequately marks their ability to represent the voters, maybe we should ask for a tour of Senator Lautenberg’s main residence in Manhattan. I am sure that he can see a lot of Bergen County from his high rise apartment, but does New York City represent New Jersey that much to house our Senator?

Keep working, Bergen GOP, clearly you have put the Bergen Dems in a state of total disorientation. If this is some of the best they have, then it should be smooth sailing through 2011.
