No Hope for Asbury Park’s Barack H. Obama Elementary

The Asbury Park elementary school that bears our current president’s name is no more, Save Jerseyans.

“Barack H. Obama Elementary” is apparently closing due to exceptionally low enrollment, as first widely reported by the Drudge Report (via Yahoo! News). Oh, sweet irony! The state carries over 80% of Asbury Park’s school budget where taxpayers pay roughly $36,000 per pupil annually. The NJEA can scream about “underfunding” education until the cows come home but clearly, when the rubber hits the road, funding levels rarely correlate to successful learning.

I mean, with that kind of massive investment, each of Jersey Shore pupil living in Asbury Park should learn enough to be president themselves on day! Or at least a community organizer with state senate prospects? You get the idea.

A recent Rutgers-Eagleton poll discovered that 48% of voters though President Obama deserved reelection. The poll’s publishers are spinning this result as a positive sign for Obama’s 2012 campaign. I’m not so sure. No incumbent in America is safe when his or her reelect is south of the 50% mark. After all, do you know what Governor Corzine’s public approval rating was at roughly this time before his reelection bid in 2008?

48%.
