5th District Showdown: Norcross vs. Norcross

Although it does not seem that redistricting will give Senator Donald Norcross an automatic primary battle, word is that he will have quite the confusing challenge anyway. George Norcross III, the famous party boss of South Jersey who gets to tell Steve Sweeney what to do, is looking to seek the Republican nomination for 5th District Senate.

This comes as a surprise to some, but not to all. In recent months George Norcross has come out in the press supporting some of of Governor Christie’s most important agenda items, like school choice and county services consolidation.

My brother is standing in the way of progress for the 5th District and the state of New Jersey. I support Governor Christie’s initiatives and hope to be a strong ally in the State Senate. I have been thinking this over for a long time, and now that the GOP is in a prime position to take at least one house of the Legislature, the timing is certainly right. Plus, it will be nice to have my own Senatorial Courtesy power, rather than having to strike fear into the hearts of the Senators I control from above.

New CCGOP Chairman Tom Booth could not be reached for comment, but an anonymous source in the party said that the talks have indeed begun, but that many committee members are livid and a new push for the new Chairman’s resignation has also begun.

When Tom said we were going to “run on Republican ideas” and not “against a figurehead who is not even on the ballot” no one thought he meant he was going to put the figurehead on OUR ballot! This is disappointing indeed, especially since he just became Chairman last night.

Norcorss says he intends to continue running the Camden County Democrats from behind the scenes while serving as a Republican State Senator starting in 2012.
