UPDATE: Booth Bests Alterman for Camden County GOP Chair

It’s over in Camden, Save Jerseyans.

Moments ago at the Cherry Hill Public Library, a standing-room-only crowd of Camden County Republican committee members elected Tom Booth of Voorhees to succeed Haddonfield’s Rick DeMichele as the organization’s chairman. DeMichele resigned earlier this month following what I believe was a vicious, shadowy and highly-personal assault from a cadre of disgruntled former Camco candidates. A see-saw legal battle ensued in New Jersey Superior Court and culminated in tonight’s vote.

Booth faced a feisty challenge from fellow attorney Stuart Alterman of Cherry Hill. Alterman allies motioned to skip the customary question period at the meeting’s onset, possibly to avoid fielding tough questions concerning Alterman’s career as a police union attorney or his recent criticism of Governor Christie’s consolidation proposals. Then the long count commenced. Booth led when the dust settled about 25 or so minutes later.

Booth’s first step? Scrambling to recruit and register candidates between now and the post-apportionment deadline. Serving as Camco GOP chairman is one of the toughest, if not THE toughest, jobs in the entire state party. As a municipal chairman, professional, volunteer and devoted Republican, I hope the county party can move forward starting tomorrow morning and get back to the important business of trying to dislodge South Jersey’s machine Democrats from office!
