Atlantic City Region Folds As Irene Raises the Stakes

Attention AC gamblers: cash out while you still can!

Atlantic County has issued a mandatory evacuation order that took effect at 6:00 AM this morning; be forewarned, Save Jerseyans, that access to the county’s barrier islands will be restricted beginning at 2:00 PM. Governor Christie already promised to use the National Guard to enforce it. Don’t test him! That never goes well for anyone who tries.

Also note that this Atlantic County evacuation extends beyond the barrier islands to all communities east of Route 9.We’re interpreting that liberally so as to include any town with a neighborhood east of Route 9. That means residents living in Somers Point, Linwood, Northfield, Pleasantville, Absecon, Galloway Township, Port Republic, and of course ANY of the barrier islands (including AC itself) need to get going and evacuate TODAY before Irene smacks head on into the Jersey Cape.

There won’t be much to do if you’re stubborn enough to stay behind. The beaches will be extremely dangerous and the casinos are all shutting down.
