Picture of the Week: “No Pancakes for Irene!”

Uncle Bill’s Pancake House is a family-owned Cape May County breakfast chain. It’s also a family tradition for hundreds of thousands of summer tourists since 1962.

Now the immensely popular Avalon branch is shuttered on what should’ve been the first day of a very profitable late August weekend. No dollar cakes for the early beach crowd, crispy bacon for the surfers or greasy cheese omelettes for the church goers. And Uncle Bill’s message for the coming hurricane is clear enough: “NO PANCAKES FOR IRENE!” either.
