Truth be told Save Jerseyans, I am not really sure if Justices retain their titles when they reenter private life, but for all intents and purposes, Former Justice Rivera-Soto, the New Jersey Supreme Court Justice who refused to sit for court in protest to the way replacements on the court were being handled, has once agin joined the legal profession as an attorney.
Rivera-Soto will be working at a Cherry Hill firm, Ballard Spahr, and will obviously be specializing in appellate work. During his tenure the bow tie wearing Justice wrote nearly 200 opinions and was considered one of the more conservative members of the court, despite the fact that he was appointed by Governor McGreevey.
His replacement, Anne Patterson, was finally sworn in last week in a private ceremony. Patterson sat in wait for well over a year while Senate Democrats blocked her appointment. It eventually became a bargaining chip as Patterson was supposed to replace Justice Wallace, who was not reappointed by Governor Christie, but now instead replaced the retiring Rivera-Soto.
Save Jersey wishes Justice Rivera-Soto the best at Ballard Spahr and thanks him for his seven years of service on New Jersey’s highest court.
