150 years ago, the American Civil War formally began in South Carolina’s Charleston Harbor. That conflict reshaped the United States and enshrined the nascent Republican Party as the Democrat Party’s permanent national counterbalance.
Ironically, the Republican Party may inaugurate its own bloody and potentially transformative civil war tonight… in Charleston, South Carolina.
