Rifles Made In New Jersey Will Travel

As Conservatives we love the Second Amendment.

Towards that end, I was reading my usual gun magazines (being a non-gun owner I don’t 100% understand but enjoy nonetheless) when I came across an advert or mention of the Henry Repeating Arms Company. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the company is based in Bayonne, New Jersey. I followed up and asked a few questions of the President/owner, Anthony Imperato, so we could find out how NJ’s only gun manufacturer was doing in our great state.

Enjoy this sample of our discussion:

Me: How long has Henry Repeating Rifles been in NJ? How long has the company been in existence? What brought the company to open up shop here?

Imperato:  We moved to Bayonne in October 2008. We resurrected the Henry name in 1996. We were previously in Brooklyn,NY and we outgrew that space. We couldn’t find what we needed in Brooklyn, or the city, so we looked in NJ at the points close to the City (Perth Amboy, Linden, Elizabeth, Bayonne, etc…). Bayonne {the} was perfect choice for many reasons. I call it the “Brooklyn of New Jersey”. We are only 13 miles from out old factory. The area is {a} great labor pool and we are in {a} residential-industrial spot on the waterfront. We have 110,000 SF on 3 acres with plenty of parking and room for expansion.

Me: How many people does the company employ?

Imperato: We started the year with 110 but will add 15 new employees. We also have 50 employees in our Rice Lake, Wisconsin plant and will be hiring more there in 2012.

Me: During the course of Henry Repeating Rifles existence, has the business climate in NJ improved, worsened, or stayed the same?

Imperato: We do not operate in {the} local {NJ} economy. Our rifles are sold all over the country, as we exported to 30 counties outside the USA.

Me: Is most of the company’s business around the nation or centered in states with more liberal gun laws?

Imperato: Our business is strongest in rural / suburban USA, weakest in urban areas. Not too many people in the City of New York, for example has a need for a lever action rifle.

Me: How do you view the role of gun ownership in America today?

Imperato: Gun ownership will continue to be challenged and we must never fall asleep at the wheel and think that we might not lose our rights.
