According to the Gloucester County Times, Harrison Township, which I thought was a Republican controlled municipality, is planning to name a new Route 322 bypass after Democrat Senate President Stephen Sweeney (LD3).
The road will apparently be named “Senator Stephen M. Sweeney Way.” I feel as though the only way that this moniker makes sense is if the road happens to be incredibly crooked…
In other road naming news, Republican Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll (LD25) would like to rename Route 15 “Ronal Reagan Memorial Highway.” After the almost-mythical President’s would be 101st birthday yesterday, I think this particular move is incredibly appropriate.
Ronald Reagan was a great man, an awesome President, an average actor, and most importantly, is already dead.
I just don’t see the sense in naming things like roads or structures after people who are still alive. I cringe every time I drive past the Wayne Bryant Community Hall in Lawnside, NJ. What were they thinking? Do we really want to give Steve Sweeney the chance to disgrace himself and ruin a whole road? Do we really want to name a road after a Senator who referred to Rutgers students as a “lynch mob?”
Vote below and tell me if you agree! Whose idea for renaming an NJ road is more appropriate?
Who the hell would name a road after a union thug who takes his marching orders from George Norcross? Is there something in the water down there? Just when you think New Jersey can't get any more corrupt!
