Seeing Through the DNC’s Embarrassing Convention Cancellation

The Democratic National Convention is in some serious trouble, Save Jerseyans.

Holding their meeting of fanatical lefties in North Carolina this year, hoping to hold on to a state President Obama won in 2008 (but will not win again), they have been faced with problem after problem. They cannot keep the unions happy, North Carolina has no hotel unionization to speak of, they cannot keep their membership happy, North Carolina recently passed a marriage-defining constitutional amendment that does not exactly fit with the liberal party platform, and now it seems that they cannot keep their donors happy either.

Yesterday, a story “leaked” that the DNC would likely be canceling their opening day ceremonies for their convention in an effort to save money, a concept that I had no idea Democrats knew anything about. Are they doing it to pay down debt? No they have plenty of that. Are they doing it so that donors can instead funnel their money to President Obama’s coffers? Absolutely not.

They are doing it because they are significantly under funded in this year’s convention planning.

The goal set by the DNC themselves was nearly $37 million to pay for the 4 day. How much have they raised to fund the event that cannot possibly match the gaudiness of last year’s Colorado soiree? An incredibly disappointing and pathetic $10 million. To put things in perspective, Romney and the RNC raised nearly $77 million in the month of May alone.

The GOP budget for their convention in Tampa was about $55 million. That money was fully raised months ago. Each party will also receive money from Washington to defray security costs.

Once the story leaked that the first day of the DNC would be canceled (and then it was canceled) the spin machine began. Some garbage about making the events more accessible by having the whole thing in uptown Charlotte. It was a weak statement at best, and showed the serious problems the party is having.

And it was brilliant.

It is easy, with just a little thought, to see what the Democrats are trying to do here. Nothing will motivate the battered Democratic fundraising base more in a year like 2012 than they idea that the GOP and their greedy corporate financiers are out-raising the DNC over 5-to-1.

Watch in the coming weeks as the Democrats, with their significantly less expensive three day convention, will be rolling in a surplus of “small” donations from “everyday Americans” looking to secure the President’s second term in office. These negative headlines will be chased with with fundraising’s emails, letters, and calls like a lime after a shot of tequila. The headlines will make a 180 degree turn and trumpet the massive Democrat comeback.

It may have been a pathetic move from a position of serious weakness, but it will work.
