Ryan, Akin, and ‘The War on Women’ Parts 2 and 3

Nothing turns out to be a surprise in American politics anymore. It turns out that we only had to wait until August to find out what the Obama campaign’s attempted “October Surprise” is going to be. There seems to be a perfect storm forming around Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan and incredibly stupid and offensive Senate nominee Todd Akin.

Since the left wing media has essentially beaten this story into the ears and minds of even the most willfully ignorant Americans out there (because let’s be honest, they do not miss an opportunity to crush the GOP for the idiotic comments of an individual member), I really see no need to go over what was said. I’ll leave it at this: “legitimate rape.” That should jog your memory if you’ve somehow been allowed to forget already.

This afternoon is the deadline for Todd Akin to step down and be replaced on the Missouri ballot for Senate. That seat, currently occupied by Senator Claire McCaskill, was largely seen to be the most vulnerable Democrat seat up for election this year. Well forget that, and also forget any real chance to take the Senate back from the Democrats in 2012 because Akin has announced this afternoon that he will remain in the race. What reason he has to fight on? I cannot tell you, Save Jerseyans. He has been exiled by everyone in the GOP from rank and file members to Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan themselves, and all of his funding from the party has been pulled. Todd Akin is literally a man on an island, where he can remain with his absurd thoughts and hopefully keep them to himself from now on.

So here is the real problem. Paul Ryan is a seriously pro-life member of Congress. How pro-life is he? Well, he is not so pro-life that he does not understand normal biological functions like Congressman Akin, but he is more pro-life than Mitt Romney or Chris Christie on the scale conservatives who only vote on one issue use to determine such a thing.

Back in 2011 Paul Ryan, Todd Akin, and a ton of other representatives co-sponsored a bill called the Sanctity of Life Act. This bill is incredibly short and has one purpose. It declares that life begins at fertilization, and it reaffirms the ability of Congress and the states to protect life in their respective jurisdictions. In other words, this bill was a bone tossed to the single issue voters that would never actually pass. And even if it did pass, it would never be signed by President Obama. The bill has not been released from the Judiciary Committee, so Paul Ryan has not voted for it, contrary to what your Facebook newsfeed might say today.

Ignoring reality, as they usually do, the Obama campaign is going pounce on this bill and tie Romney-Ryan to Akin as much as they can. However, you wont see it right away. With this stupid comment came part 2 of the “War on Women” narrative. Chicago is going to ride this wave through the next few weeks in attempts to spread the gender gap even further between Obama and Romney. Once the media has done enough damage to Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan for something they have never said or agreed with, the floodgates will open.

In early October the commercials will begin. You can close your eyes and imagine it now. A nasty picture of Paul Ryan on the left side of your screen quoting some pro-life statement out of context, and then a shot of Todd Akin, who will still be the GOP nominee for Senate in Missouri, with the audio of his now famously asinine comment on rape and abortion. To tie it all together, a calm but nasty voiceover will let voters know that Ryan and Akin co-sponsored pro-life bills together, but of course they will be called “anti-women’s healthcare” bills.

That will be the “War on Women” Part 3. Just as fabricated, distracting, and ridiculous as the first two.

  1. Facts.

    (1) The Roe v. Wade decision was in 1972. Since 1972, Republicans have held the Presidency for 24 years. No changes have been made to Roe v. Wade.

    (2) Before Roe v. Wade had passed, abortion was legal in California, Florida, New York and New Jersey and several other states. In other words, abortion was legal in a significant number of states before Roe v. Wade.

    (3) There is virtually no chance that a constitutional amendment that would ban abortion would pass Congress by the necessary majorities and would be ratified by 3/4 of the states.

  2. Akin admitted he misspoke and apologized. It's time to focus on and expose Obama's radical positions. Obama never met an abortion he didn't like. His positions are so extreme he even voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. His HHS contraceptive mandate which is an attack on the first amendment's religious liberty and freedom of conscience protections was drafted with the help of Planned Parenthood and other like minded groups who will financially benefit from the new policy. Moreover, his national healthcare plan will force every American to pay for abortion and will ration health care for the elderly. He has given millions of our hard earned tax dollars to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider who has been repeatedly caught on tape aiding and abetting the sexual predators of minors. And there's so much more! It's time to expose these positions to the American people and stop playing into the feeding frenzy of the left.
