Save Jersey [re]confirmed Chris Christie’s role as the 2012 Republican National Convention keynote speaker on Satuday.
Don’t expect the MSM and their proxy blogs to give us credit for it. Just so long as we know – right, Save Jerseyans?
And there are a number of reasons being floated around today to explain Christie’s central role on Tuesday night of the convention, including but not limited to: (1) his speaking ability; (2) his credentials as a reformer; (3) the obvious parallels between his tenure in New Jersey and the ticket’s adopted “comeback” theme; (4) pressure from pro-Christie donors; (5) gratitude for his nearly non-stop fundraising; and (6) the need for a “consolation prize” of sorts for having been passed him over in favor of Paul Ryan.
Yes, most of those points played at least some role. But the biggest single reason Chris Christie landed in the convention scheduling sweet spot? Name recognition.
The results of a recent CNN public survey (pdf) are illustrative. Pollsters found Governor Christie drawing a higher favorability rating (37% to 21% unfavorable) than any other major Republican with a national following including Paul Ryan, Bobby Jindal, Marco Rubio and Speaker John Boehner. A keynote is most effective when people know the speaker!
Should've been Rubio up there.
Excellent choice. Maybe he can rub off on Mitt. That dude is still way too nice.
