Debates (Finally) Set for Kyrillos vs. Menendez

After a little calculated ducking by the Democrat incumbent, a debate schedule is finally set New Jersey 2012 U.S. Senate Race (h/t NorthJersey.com):

The first debate, set for Oct. 4, will be held at Montclair State University and broadcast on NJTV. It is sponsored by Montclair and North Jersey Media Group, the parent company of The Record.

The next debate will take place the following week, on Oct. 10. The Menendez campaign did not release that debate’s location, but said it will be broadcast on 101.5 FM.

Three days later, on Oct. 13, the candidates will meet one more time. That debate will be recorded and shown the following day on the ABC television affiliates WABC and WPVI and on Univision. In addition to the television stations, the debate is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New Jersey Education Fund.

Joe Kyrillos’s CM issued the following statement in which the GOP campaign took credit for allegedly forcing Menendez’s hand:

It is clear that without the pressure from the Kyrillos campaign, Senator Menendez would not have accepted any debates,”said Kyrillos Campaign Manager Chapin Fay. “And why would he? How do you defend a failed economic record of high unemployment, high debt, and continually rising costs of goods and services? In 2006, Senator Menendez was eager to debate, accepting invitations as early as June. Now that ‘Belt-way Bob’ has record of economic failure following him around, he doesn’t want to talk. Senator Kyrillos stands ready to debate Senator Menendez and force him to defend his failed record as a United States Senator and has thus accepted ALL invitations to debate.”
