Christie Administration Extends New Jersey Electronic Voting… to Friday?

Here we go, Save Jerseyans…

The new Garden State deadline for Election 2012 email and fax ballots in the wake of Hurricane Sandy? This Friday at 8 PM…

Yup, your eyes are fine!

County clerks have been instructed by Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno to accept mail-in ballots applications by fax and e-mail up through 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ballots must be returned, however, by the deadline of 8:00 p.m. this Friday, November 9th (h/t NJ.com).

American states are permitted to establish voting dates for other federal offices, such as U.S. senators and representatives, but extending the deadline by almost one week for a presidential election? Hmmm… a literal reading of Article 2, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution would suggest the answer is “no.”

Let the great constitutional debate begin.

You can read Lt. Governor Guadgno’s directive here.
