Fiscal Cliff = Bungee Jumping with a Broken Cord!

Last night, I had a dream that my kids and I were in Trenton with Governor Christie.

My oldest was having issues with a science fair project, and Christie offered to help. The project was actually in good shape structurally, but we were having difficulty getting it to work properly. Long story short, the Governor came up with several options to resolve our issue, and after testing each one out unsuccessfully, he then came up with the final winning method for successfully completing the project.

Could this dream be a manifestation of my fears regarding the impending fiscal cliff?  Perhaps. I DID fall asleep to Fox News last night, after all. But my dream ended with a tried-and-true solution to our perceived operational issue, from a like-minded government official. I see no such path to resolution from the articles I have read to date about the opposing viewpoints within the federal government.

Will history repeat itself again if the Obama administration pushes us over the cliff?  Will the actions that end up debilitating the economy be backed out as part of a rescue plan?  I don’t feel comfortable that the President really understands how his decisions will negatively impact the economy, and what those impacts will mean for future growth and expansion (which is absolutely a NECESSITY!).  I believe that based on his past record, Obama and his administration are very short-sighted and let’s face it; they have not really proven themselves to be a really effective strategic thinking unit.

My primary reason for panicking about a nation-wide leap off the cliff is that we have NO PARACHUTES to cushion our fall.  I have seen nothing about phased approaches to tackling the debt, the tax code, or spending cuts.  Obviously, Obama is going to shoot as high as possible with his proposal in the first round of negotiations.  But the reality is, he spent the past four years…..literally.  So now, because of the error of his ways and the ways of his fellow Democrats, everyone needs to pay FULL PRICE. No valid coupon codes will apply to this scenario.

The Democrats in Congress just are not in touch with reality.  How could they be?  They are lumping families who earn $251,000 a year in with the likes of Carl Icahn.  Are they all really “the wealthiest Americans?”  And a family earning $251,000 in New Jersey is in a very different financial situation than someone earning the same amount living in Iowa.

These legislators really need to get a grip on the population of people they are representing.  Maybe they should have taken some time over the past years to figure out how to mitigate the impacts of their potential financial decisions BEFORE slapping together their laundry list of revenue-generating tactics and putting it out there as their official proposal.
