Let’s See Bob Costas Try to Explain Sword Violence Spike

Let’s see Bob Costas try to explain this one, Save Jerseyans.

According to CBS’s Pittsburgh affiliate, early Tuesday morning, a “woman was pumping gas at Sweet Pea’s Food Mart, when a man with a sword approached her and held it to her throat. …[t]he victim handed over her purse, and the suspect took off with it.”

A pattern is developing! Because it’s easier to find katanas in American’s cities than guns? In October, a man wielding a samurai’s sword robbed a Church’s Chicken franchise in Kansas City. A similar assault-by-sabre nearly resulted in tragedy at a Las Vegas Dairy Queen in August… until the resourceful clerk shot him dead.

See… even God loves irony!

Now I’m looking forward to Mr. Costas’s sermon on “sword violence” at some point during the NFL playoffs.

  1. F_ck you, Rooney. NOW you are a born-again fan of the Second Amendment? New Jersey residents have sued in Federal Court to overturn New Jersey's oppressive gun laws. In case you've forgotten, Christie's Attorney General, Paula Dow, made the argument in Federal Court that the Second Amendment does not protect constitutional rights outside of one's home? Did Christie fire her for making such an absurd argument? Of course not. He appointed Paula Dow to be a judge.

Incidentally, can you name one other constitutional right that I can exercise inside my home but which I cannot exercise outside of my home? Have you ever asked this question of our Governor?

Rooney, you claim to be a conservative Republican but you've been done little more than be a cheerleader for liberal RINOs (e.g., Chris Christie, Mitt Romney) ever since you started this blog. You wouldn't know a conservative if one jumped up and bit you.

  2. I can tell you're not a regular reader. We're constantly criticizing Republicans when they go astray (re: the state budget, abortion, taxes, anti-bullying laws, etc. and so on), but our primary focus has always been economic issues.

When we do discuss the Second Amendment, I've always been solidly in favor of Second Amendment rights. I challenge you to cite a single instance when I haven't taken the pro-2nd Amendment position on an issue covered by our site.

That said, we live in a two party system. It's been that way since 1800. If you want to vote for a candidate who agrees with you 100% of the time, move to a parliamentary country where parties are numerous and ideologically pure. In America, we have to make compromises. That doesn't mean there aren't huge and important AND SUBSTANTIVE differences between the two major parties.

Chris Christie isn't William F. Buckley but he was the only candidate capable of beating Jon Corzine. He did, and we're all objectively better off for it. Will primarying him in 2013 accomplish anything positive for gun rights? Will the election of Cory Booker or Barbara Buono aid the 2nd Amendment?

Let's turn down the rhetoric, clean up the language and focus on reality/facts. Then we can have a constructive conversation.
