Grim news from a neighbor to the North today, Save Jerseyans (via CBS News):
CBS News is reporting that at least 27 people are dead, including 18 students, after a mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. The gunman is among the dead.
CBS News’ John Miller reports there is preliminary information that the gunman was the father of one of the students. Miller additionally reports the gunman is 20 years old and is from New Jersey.
First and foremost, may God bless and keep the victims and their families. The horror of this developing situation isn’t capable of being reduced to words.
Secondly, I’m hoping (perhaps without a realistic expectation) for politicians, media personalities and commentators to use a little common sense and keep Second Amendment politics out of this tragedy as it continues to unfold (incidentally, the White House is in agreement). That’d be a refreshing, positive change for our public discourse and frankly the best thing for the suffering families at this point in time. We all have strong opinions on the topic, but a little human decency isn’t too much to demand at a time like this.
