The media is having a field day with the much-publicized current state of our party. They are taking every single occurrence and blowing it out to portray a completely fractured party to the nation, and to the world. We have become our own bi-partisan entity, and as a result, the enemy within has become a very real threat to our future.
I read a LOT of political commentary on a daily basis, and it constantly frustrates me because of the liberal bias that is front and center of pretty much every article (except those from the WSJ – THANKS for that!). Just in case you didn’t know, the Democrats are LOVING our seeming inability to “come together,” quoting the new slogan of the second term of Obama-itis we are suffering.
One thing that Republicans appear to have forgotten is the fact that we are all supposedly on the same team; at a high level, players who are for small government, big business, personal liberty, and low taxes.
Since we are not all cookie-cutter carbon copies of one another, it should be expected that there are slight variations in our beliefs (hence the differences between moderates and tea party activists), but these are the major ideologies that should bond us together.
I don’t necessarily agree with assessments that our issues and infighting stem from the fact that we are lacking the guidance of a strong leader. I think we have some very strong leaders. What is missing is the cooperation and “working across the aisle” within our own party. It seems to me that the majority of Republicans are acting like spoiled toddlers that shut down and throw temper tantrums when they do not get their own way. These toddlers then get defiant and start throwing dirty diapers around, pulling books off the shelves, emptying sippy cups full of chocolate milk onto my beige carpet…..oops, sorry – I guess I got too caught up in my comparison. Anyway, you get where I am going.
Nasty words fly around, bad feelings perpetuate, and guess what? Nothing gets done because people have dug their heels in and don’t want to collaborate and coordinate with one another. They criticize, but they don’t present viable solutions. Never bring up a problem without a proposed solution – I live by this rule at work, and in my personal life. Show that you have a vested interest as well. Don’t shut down and point fingers.
There are always three sides to every story, remember that. We don’t always have all of the information at our fingertips that we need in order to formulate a clear and accurate opinion. A lot of what gets reported is what helps mold our views and we have to be cognizant about who is actually delivering those reports.
I complained about the non-existence of bi-partisan cooperation last year when the inability to compromise was rampant throughout Congress – among members of both parties. But now, that seems small-scale and it has been overshadowed by the hard and bitter feelings between our own party members.
Bottom line? Everyone needs to chillax and realize that nothing gets done when battling ensues. We need to remember our cause, and band together so that we can defeat the socialist regime that has overtaken our great nation.
You must be honest about your faults before the party can be improved. Unfortunately, many NJ Republicans resent any type of constructive criticism.
