GOP Governor Continues to Wrap Up “Wink and Nod” Endorsements from Dem Bosses
By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog
Governor Chris Christie will attend Essex County’s “State of the County” address on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
So what? Here’s what, Save Jerseyans:
For those of you who don’t follow such things, Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo is a big time powerbroker in New Jersey politics. And like fellow party bosses Brian Stack in Union City and George Norcross down in South Jersey, DiVincenzo’s been exceptionally friendly with the Garden State’s Republican Governor throughout most of his first term.
Don’t expect a formal endorsement from County Executive DiVincenzo. High-level power politics doesn’t work that way. But if you’re Barbara “Buckle Up for Safety” Buono, then it might as well be for the purposes of your campaign effort.
We know Jon Corzine was history relatively early on Election Day 2009 when polling station lines were reported as thin in urban locales like Newark, Union City, Atlantic City and Camden. New Jersey is a blue state but it’s closer to a shade of purple if you discount its urban centers, and Buono frankly can’t win if the Democrat bosses aren’t out working hard and beating the pavement for her; not when Chris Christie’s job approval rating among registered New Jersey Democrats is 58%.
