Promises Without a Price Tag

Obama is Invested in Ignorance; It’s Time for Voters to Wake Up and Realize it!

By Dale Glading | The Save Jersey Blog

State of the UnionPresident Obama began his State of the Union address on February 12th at around 9:20 PM. Thankfully, sleep overtook my heavy eyelids at about 10:00 PM.

Being a fiscal and social conservative, I spent those 40 minutes shaking my head and shouting at my TV. Not because of what the president said; but because of what he didn’t say.

What he didn’t say was this – how the heck are we going to pay for any of these seemingly wonderful new programs?

I realize that by calling it “investing” instead of “spending” we are supposed to believe that our federal coffers are overflowing with money just waiting to be spent – I mean, invested.

But that’s not true. The truth is that we as a nation are broke. That’s B-R-O-K-E in capital letters. There is nothing left in our checking account. Upend our national piggy bank and you’ll hear absolutely nothing rattling around inside because it’s empty.

Just like President Obama’s rhetoric….

Does he really think that Americans are so stupid as to believe that we can introduce universal preschool and pay for it with federal tax dollars without “adding one dime to the deficit”?

For that matter, why do we even need universal preschool? Whatever happened to parents raising their own kids – reading to them at bedtime for instance – instead of expecting Uncle Sam to do it for them?

I don’t know about you, but I am tired of President Obama and other career politicians promising us the sun and the moon – only to find that there is an astronomical price tag attached to both of them. Fortunately for Obama and his Capitol Hill cronies, they are usually safely re-elected or out of office by the time the bills come due – with interest.

Voters need to stop being suckers for whatever snake oil is being peddled inside the Washington Beltway. Don’t we realize that they are trying to buy our votes with our own money?

I would rather have a politician look me in the eye and tell me the cold, hard truth. He or she would earn my respect – and my vote.

Instead, President Obama thinks that he can keep “investing” in new government programs because he still has some checks left in his checkbook. The problem is those checks aren’t worth the paper they are printed on.

And either he knows it and doesn’t care or he thinks we’re too dumb to recognize a zero balance when we see one.

  1. Cut defense spending like the useless F35 Stealth Bomber that apparently isn't stealth! We are also pulling troops and reducing our presence in Iraq. Oh, and another thing, I just read that Obama's initiatives on reducing Medicare fraud has saved us billions of dollars already. And one wish from me, really reduce the size of Government by eliminating or drastically cutting the offices of Senatorial and Congressional staff. They have local offices, they don't need big staffs in both. A secretary and an aide will do in Washington.
