Make Presidents’ Day Worth It By Getting to Know Your Founders
By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog
It’s a damn shame that school kids have off today, Save Jerseyans.
Instead of spending Presidents’ Day playing video games or surfing the web, the next generation of voters should spend a little time getting acquainted with the Founding Fathers who built a civilization out a wilderness. If there’s one thing we’ve learned as of late it’s exactly how fatal ignorance is to a democratic state.
Presidents’ Day should be more than just another paid day off for government workers. But I suppose there’s no reason we can’t convene class right here at Save Jersey…
After all, today is the official commemoration of Washington’s Birthday (the actual day is Feb. 22nd), so if you’re “lucky” enough to be home with the kids today, gather’em in front of the computer screen and meet the real George Washington courtesy of National Geographic:

Most people are off today not just government workers.
@Mike Private employers can do whatever they want (but most small businesses are open today). My two cents? Our children are falling behind the rest of the industrialized world in math and science, and they know next to nothing about their country. Today should be a civics-intensive day at public schools… not another holiday. They just had one for MLK.
My kids have school today.
I thought presidents day was like groundhog day. Today is the day president Obama comes out of the white house. If he sees his shadow we will have four more years of crap.
