$174k for the Widow Lautenberg

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

Falling MoneyDid you hear about this, Save Jerseyans?

Your House of Representatives passed appropriations bill H.R. Res. 59 on Monday; buried (but not really too buried) in that resolution was a one time and possibly tax free $174,000 lump sum payment to the late Senator Frank Lautenberg’s widow.

No need to get your eyes checked. You read it correctly. And it gets better:

Before he passed away back in June, the Laut was considered one of the richest men in Congress with an estimated minimum net worth of $56.8 million.

Liberals love “means-tested” payouts except when they’re on the receiving end!

Scream about it until you’re blue in the face, my friends. Unfortunately, while most Americans would likely agree that this is an archaic practice, Washington burns through so much money on a daily basis (the DOD burns through $1.8 billion daily by itself!) that “little” stuff like a six-figure death benefit for millionaires slips through the cracks. Our fellow citizens’ capacity for outrage is limited, stretched and insufficient to tackle the challenges which seems to be piling up on our injured republic’s doorstep.

Oh, if the founders could see us now…
