Christie Drops LG Revelation at Franks Dedication

Former Rep. Franks, Not Kim Guadagno, Was Apparently Christie’s First Choice for His LG Running Mate in 2009

Governor Chris Christie spoke at Tuesday’s dedication of the Union Township NJ Transit station named in honor of the late Republican Congressman Bob Franks, Save Jerseyans, and in typical Christie fashion managed to make news with a superficially inconsequential anecdote.

“Chris, I’m honored, but I really love the job I have now and second, Fran would kill me,” Franks allegedly told Christie upon receiving the then-GOP candidate’s 2009 offer to serve as his running mate for the position of lieutenant governor. According to Christie, Franks politely declined and, as they say, the rest is history.

“I can probably do something about the first one,” Christie reported responding, “but I can’t do anything about the second one.”

Franks passed away the following April. Admittedly, it’s a little odd for someone like Christie to give us insight into the LG selection process while still in office, but there you have it… the man makes his own rules!

Here are some of the Governor’s Franks-centric remarks:
