Bill Stepien, who previously served as Chris Christie’s campaign manager for ’09 and ’13 as well as a deputy chief of staff, is widely known as the unforgiving enforcer of the Christie political machine. You know you’re in trouble if it’s Bill on the other line. Now he’s likely to play a key roll in his boss’s efforts to roll up 2014 gubernatorial victories in his capacity as Chairman of the Republican Governors Association (RGA).
This move is likely one of the announcement that the Governor planned to make at his third post-election “personnel” presser on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. It’s fundamentally a big vote of confidence in Stepien after last week’s press conference when Christie assured assembled media that his campaign – and Stepien specifically – played no role in the Fort Lee lane closure debacle.
Bill Stepien is only the latest key Christie operative to land a plum assignment in a strategically important spot for the Governor’s expected presidential campaign. Last month, Matt Mowers became the Executive Director of the New Hampshire GOP.
