I, for one, didn’t take offense when Joan Rivers transposed “Palestinians” with “New Jerseyans” back in July of this year to explain, as only she can, why Israel has an absolute right to defend itself in the face of ongoing terrorist attacks (see below). There wasn’t a malicious bone in her body and, 9 times out of 10, she hit the nail directly on the head (even when it hurt as much as that sounds). It’s a big part of explanation for how she got away with dropping deliciously-outrageous truth bombs for decades on American television and delighting audiences across gender, age and economic lines.
Joan Rivers wasn’t afraid to piss off anyone over anything. I can’t help but admire that. She was an undeniably honest force in an age of Twitter-using, ribbon-wearing, politically-correct artificiality. Rare authenticity in an age of artificiality. Our culture’s atmosphere just got a little more stagnant with her passing.
She could’ve run for Governor of New Jersey! We could’ve done worse. We HAVE done worse.
Rest in peace, Joan Rivers. You were truly one of a kind, one which we’re certainly lacking in this world of ours:
