Bonnie Doesn’t Know What’s In It. Or Doesn’t Care?

Eck Coleman Debate

There are plenty of reasons to support Dr. Alieta Eck over Asw. Bonnie Watson Coleman in the race to succeed Rush Holt, Save Jerseyans.

This exchange from Wednesday night’s debate is a good place to start:

“$500 million came out of Medicare because of the Affordable Care Act which you are in favor of, correct?” asked Eck, a medical doctor and co-found of the Zarephath Health Center, looking directly at Coleman.

“The Affordable Care Act?” Watson Coleman responded, apparently running on autopilot. “Of course, I’m in favor of it!”

Um… what?

Remember Nancy Pelosi’s we have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what’s in it” remark?

Well, Bonnie Watson Coleman still hasn’t read the damn thing. Even the cliff notes version.

We had to correct her back during the primary when she accused Republicans of trying to “end Medicare” when, in fact, it was her party that raided billions from the program to fund the Obamacare disaster that robbed (in case you’ve forgotten) thousands of her prospective constituents of their preferred plans AND jacked their premiums.

As is clearly evidenced by her debate performance, Bonnie is either (1) no less ignorant of the state of health care law today than she was back in the spring or, alternatively, (2) her willingness to make crap up to score political points is shocking and disturbing even for New Jersey. I suspect there’s at least a little bit of #2 at work here after what she tried to do to Chris Christie earlier in 2014 (ultimately resulting in her resignation from the SCI).

Or maybe she really doesn’t care about Medicare? Assuming gutting it, and defending the move, helps cover her party’s leader’s butt?

Asm. Watson Coleman’s campaign website issue page completely contradicts her debate statement:

When increased age leads to rising health care costs, Medicare serves as a safety net to provide millions of Americans with quality medical care. In Washington, Bonnie Watson Coleman will work to protect Americans from Tea Party attempts to cut Medicare, convert it to a voucher program, and raise the age for eligibility of benefits. The contributions that senior citizens have made to our country are immeasurable. In Congress, Bonnie Watson Coleman will remain committed to providing seniors the opportunity to retire with dignity.

Again… is she just a little bit dense? Someone who is a little too comfortable bending the truth?

Or both?

Frankly it doesn’t matter at this point. Don’t take a chance on her, NJ-12 voters. There’s a vastly superior alternative in this race – Alieta Eck – who not only understands Obamacare AND grapples with its implications on a daily basis, but she’s also put her own solutions into practice right here in New Jersey. And unlike with Obamacare, with Dr. Alieta Eck, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting right up front!
