Never wanting for a dull day in Bergen County, Save Jerseyans, video surfaced over the weekend featuring Republican Sheriff Mike Saudino appearing to endorse Democrat Jim Tedesco and his running mates in the upcoming election.
Now the sheriff is backtracking claiming he has made no endorsement in the race.
It’s no secret that Saudino and Donovan have had a rocky relationship (at best) for some time now; Saudino was particularly angry after Donovan refused to sign the contract negotiated with the sheriff’s officers. However, Saudino has also repeatedly said at BCRO meetings that his differences with the county executive are a matter of policy, not personal, and that they are both working to help the citizens of Bergen County.
It’s critical that that work occur over the next four weeks.
While the merger of the police and the contract with the officers is a major issue, it is important to remember there are other issues at play. The election of Jim Tedesco is not just an election of Tedesco; it puts the BCDO gravy train back in motion.
It would return Bergen County to the days of no-show county jobs, bloated perks, and out-of-control spending that defined the McNerney years.
It is time for Republicans to unite and make sure we understand the big consequences at play in November. We need to make sure the Democrats never return to complete control of county government. We have been there and no one liked it (well, except the people with the no-show jobs and bloated perks).
Here’s hoping that Republicans in Bergen County may finally all get on the same page!
Too bad the Bergen County Republican chair can’t straighten this out.
