The death toll in Nepal continues to soar after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked the landlocked Southeast Asian country, Save Jerseyans, triggering landslides and killing approximately 2,500 including at least three Americans.
One of the three was Marisa Eve Girawong, a 28-year old Edison native and New Jersey Rutgers University graduate working as a physician’s assistant near Mount Everest for Madison Mountaineering. She previously worked at East Orange General Hospital.
“Eve perished in the aftermath of the avalanche that struck the base camp area following the devastating Nepal earthquake earlier today,” her employer confirmed on Saturday in a post titled “our hearts are broken.”
The entire Save Jersey family offers fervent prayers and expresses its deepest sympathies to Ms. Girawong’s family and friends both abroad and back home here in the Garden State.
