Biting the hand that feeds them

Steve Sweeney

By Scott St. Clair | The Save Jersey Blog

Can we agree that New Jersey’s business and economic climate is a disaster? So where’s the agreement on how to fix it? State Senate President Steve Sweeney insists upon a “millionaire’s tax” to cover the current pension mess, while others demand mandatory employer-paid sick leave.

New Jersey has the worst business tax and regulatory climate in America, with Newark the worst city in which to start up a business. These schemes will make things worse, not better.

Sen. Sweeny was quoted as saying, “No one likes to increase any tax, and it would not be necessary to do so if New Jersey did not rank near the bottom in economic, revenue and job growth…The new revenue will help the state meet its financial obligations and restore the fiscal stability that is needed to get the economy moving.”

He has some support out there in the general population. One Star-Ledger guest columnist, a mother of three who holds down two jobs, recently wrote that she wants government-mandated paid sick leave for the next time one of her kids gets sick.

Both want to solve problems by dumping the cost off onto business owners who will pull up stakes and move or eliminate one or both of Ms. Morales’ jobs as a result.

Want to get the economy moving? Slash taxes, minimize the regulatory burden on business and forget mandatory employer-paid sick leave.

  1. As per Scott Sinclairs article in todays ‘Save Jersey . . .

As I stated in my article (https://savejersey.com/2015/05/christie-sweeney-pension/ ). . . “Senate President Steve Sweeney is already looking to fully fund the pensions in 2016. The only problem? He can’t explain how it’s possible without raising taxes. He is making promises and those like him to further their positions once again on the backs of those who can’t afford it.”

IS anyone else getting ticked off at the sheer arrogance of these moron’s who continually justify taking money from the people’s pockets as if the state problem’s are their fault!

WE CAN’T AFFORD ANYMORE TAX INCREASES!
ALERT TO SWEENY . . . WE ALREADY HAD OVER 115 TAX INCREASES, WE INCREASED THE SALES TAX FROM 6% TO 7% FROM THE TWO PRIOR ADMINISTRATIONS BEFORE CHRISTIE THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO MEET THE STATES FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS AND RESTORE FISCAL STABILITY . . . AND YOU ARE STILL MAKING PROMISES YOU CAN’T KEEP!

  2. New Jersey is the most over legislated, over regulated, over taxed state in the union. Millionaires and businesses are leaving the state in record numbers; proof positive that our politicians are getting it wrong, and ruining the state with their liberal agenda.

  3. Why should one ‘class’ of citizens, in this case, those earning more then a million dollars, pay for the mess created by another ‘class’ of citizens, the legislature? NJ is in decline due to systemic megalomania. Business and residential flight will accelerate due increased taxation. Another nail in the coffin of NJ.
