Bergen Freeholders use “travelling meetings” to campaign for Democrats

By Matthew Gilson | The Save Jersey Blog

Travelling Freeholder Meetings are all the rage in Bergen County, Save Jerseyans.

Democrats are scheduling meetings around the county to bring the Freeholder board to you the people!  They truly just care so deeply about strong community relations with the Freeholder Board that they will come to your town instead of making you slog all the way to Hackensack.  This is about making government work for the people, showing that Bergen County works for you! Right???

Wrong. Sorry if you were naïve enough to think that, but this is the Democrats we are talking about… and Bergen Democrats no less.

Every event, whether it is a Freeholder meeting, parade, or softball game, presents a chance to campaign for the Democrats and their team. If there is a vote to be had, you have to give the Democrats at least credit they will stop at nothing to make sure they get it.

bergen freeholdersThe “Travelling Freeholder Meetings” gimmick is just the latest attempt by the Democrats to use their advantage in county government to promote their candidates both local and county at the expense and time of the taxpayers.

Case in point? Last week’s meeting was held in Emerson.  There was the typical Freeholder business, but the Democratic majority spent a great deal of time fawning over the Democratic mayor of Emerson and the new Democratic council people. The reason? Control of Emerson town government will be at-stake in November, so what better than using the power of the Freeholder board as a campaign tool?

It gives a certain sense of legitimacy to the candidates and provides a free and expansive venue to promote a message.

This is far from an isolated incident. They’ve been shameless. Last year, at a travelling meeting in Rutherford, Democrats refused to acknowledge the presence of Republican Mayor Joe DeSalvo instead going as far as to recognize Democratic Council Candidate “Hudson Mark” Goldsack, a toadie of Vinny Prieto.  Thankfully, the citizens of Rutherford were too smart than to elect the man who wanted to turn Rutherford into an extensive of his beloved Hudson County.

The issues facing the town are not at the forefront, promoting Democrats for office is the main goal.

Democrats do a great job of disguising their agenda.  If a “Travelling Freeholder Meeting” comes to your town, show up and make sure the Democrats stop using it is a campaign stop.

Let the residents of your town know what they’re up to. Then go ahead, show up, and respectfully (but clearly) let them know that YOU know what’s they’re trying to pull…

  1. Its too bad the two Republican Freeholders have to go along for the ride. And someone should call their aides on the carpet for posting such anti sentiments of Republicans on their Facebook pages. These twinks should just be happy they have a job of any kind…for the moment.
