The internal warfare over Donald Trump is only the tip of the iceberg where the New Jersey Republican Party’s civil unrest is concerned, Save Jerseyans.

ICYMI –  Powerful Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore is supporting incumbent National Committeewoman Virginia “Ginny” Haines of his county for another term in the post. She was also recently appointed to the freeholder board.

The Governor isn’t on the same page with his long-time ally. Christie Inc. backs Darlene Shotmeyer, the Bergen County State Committeewoman and wife of GOP fundraiser Chuck Shotmeyer.

Republican Congressmen are now siding with their chairman over their governor.

Today, Congressmen Tom MacArthur, Chris Smith and Frank LoBiondo formally endorsed the re-election of Committeewoman Haines in a joint statement issued by the Ocean County GOP.

“I was proud to serve with Ginny in the State Assembly because even then, it was clear that she was a serious leader committed to our Republican Party,” explained LoBiondo. “On the National Committee, Ginny continues to be a strong, principled voice advocating for what’s best for our Party. That brand of commitment is rare, and is exactly why I’m endorsing Ginny for re-election as National Committeewoman.”

The implications? The NJ GOP is gradually continuing to revert back to its pre-Christie power structure where a group of powerful red county party chairmen and their senior elected officials control key party appointments, candidate nominations and strategies as opposed to 2010-2013 when the Christie front office made 100% of those major calls (or at least exercised a veto).
