Our friend Jesse Kurtz (the freshman Republican – and only Republican on Atlantic City council) held his first town hall meeting on Saturday, Save Jerseyans.
It’s worth a listen given his fresh, articulate, and brutally honest first-person assessment of the ongoing tug-of-war between first-term GOP Mayor Don Guardian and the Christie-Sweeney Trenton syndicate over a proposed state takeover of the legendary seaside gaming resort.
Atlantic City Prime Time has the audio here.
Councilman Kurtz told the crowd that while he thought many of Senate President Steve Sweeney and Governor Chris Christie‘s criticisms of the city’s financial practices are valid, notwithstanding some incorrect facts, he concluded that the proposed plan would be “poison.”
During the unrecorded Q&A period, Kurtz elaborated by declaring that “A.C. should not be the piggy bank for the Sweeney for Governor campaign,” and insisting that “Van Drew and Rice represent AC more than Whelan,” the city’s actual state senator.
The Christie Administration is currently suing Atlantic City to compel education payments while the prospect of bankruptcy looms.

They stopped it I think!
Jesse Kurtz has the most common sense thinking of anyone in terms of what to do about Atlantic City. He’s a breath of fresh air.
