Senate GOP’ers offer measured reactions to Timpone nomination

Whenever Governor Chris Christie nominates someone to a significant cabinet post or the state’s Supreme Court, we’ve come to expect lavish praise of the nomination from Republican legislators.

Today’s news that the Governor withdrawing David Bauman and subbing in Walter Timpone as part of a deal with Senate Democrats elicited a muted response from Senate GOP’ers in the early going.

“Today’s nomination of Walter Timpone represents the first opportunity in six years for the New Jersey Supreme Court to be fully staffed by confirmed justices,” said Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr. “I hope this is the first step in clearing a large backlog of nominations that has left dozens of courtrooms empty and threatened speedy justice in New Jersey.”

Senator Kip Bateman, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, echoed hope for an end to judicial stalemates (click here to read his Save Jersey op-ed on the subject) but focused his comments instead on what he saw as the poor treatment of Bauman.

“Judge Bauman deserves a lot of credit for twice accepting a nomination in such a challenging political environment. Although I wish we had the opportunity to give him the confirmation hearing he deserved, I am glad that he now has closure on what has been a long process,” Bateman offered in a statement. “I look forward to reviewing the nomination of Walter Timpone in the Senate Judiciary Committee, and hope that his nomination represents an end to the judicial logjam that threatened our state courts.”

  1. If Kip “Mr RINO Tool” Bateman approves of Timpone, then we can be sure Timpone will return the favor and screw over Save Jerseyan dummmies.
