Christie, Guadagno join chorus of Trump’s GOP critics over Khan comments

Governor Chris Christie is popularly seen as a leading Donald Trump apologist, but on Tuesday, Trump’s transition chieftain parted ranks and said the GOP nominee’s response to the parents of Humayan Khan were “inappropriate.”

“I didn’t see Mr. Khan’s speech at the DNC but I’ll just say this: I’m a father and I just cannot imagine the pain of losing a child under any circumstances,” Christie said during a Tuesday afternoon press conference. “And for Mr. and Mrs. Khan, the pain of losing their son while defending our country is unfathomable, and I think it gives them the right to say whatever they want, whether they’re right or wrong.”

Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno was blunter then her boss one day earlier via Twitter:

Guadagno has yet to formally endorse Trump.

A growing list of Trump endorsers — including John McCain, who Trump once teased for being captured during the Vietnam War — have also repudiated Trump’s comments.
