Former Christie campaign manager and political enforcer Bill Stepien is back on the national political radar, Save Jerseyans.
According to a Friday afternoon report from NBC News, he’s been picked up by the Trump campaign.
Stepien will reportedly serve as National Field Director.
Christie, who heads up Trump’s transition team, fired Stepien from a Deputy Chief of Staff post back in January 2014 when the Bridgegate scandal broke.
“I was disturbed by the tone and behavior and attitude of callous indifference that was displayed in the emails by my former campaign manager, Bill Stepien,” Christie told press members at the time.
Notwithstanding his brush with scandal (Stepien was never charged), the operative remains popular in N.J. establishment circles. Most recently, he was tapped to head Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno’s think tank.
The Bridgegate federal corruption trial is scheduled to begin this fall.
