VIDEO: Nutley Commissioner ready to launch GOP gubernatorial bid in early December

Steven RogersNutley Township Commissioner Steven L. Rogers, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era, isn’t just flirting with a run for governor next year.

He’s preparing to launch in the next couple of weeks.

That’s what the career military and law enforcement veteran told supporters during a free-wheeling live Facebook chat on Tuesday night, pledging to make an announcement with the next 15 days.

He also urged early backers to vote for him in SaveJersey.com’s latest online straw poll, came out in favor of a voter referendum on legislators’ pay, and offered strong support for President-elect Donald Trump.

“Those of you who support the Second Amendment? You’ve got a friend going to Trenton,” the exploratory candidate declared from the passenger’s seat of a car.

Especially in light of Chris Christie’s ‘decision’ to finish out the remainder of his current term, a circumstance which denies his number two the clear advantage of incumbency, Rogers will join a quickly-forming field that includes potential/possible/likely Republican primary challengers Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, Evesham Mayor Randy Brown, State Senator Michael Doherty, social media activist Joe Rullo and famed comedian Joe Piscopo.
