Paul Passamano Ready to Challenge Schaer, Caride in LD36

Often neglected by political pundits in favor of its more competitive cousin to the north, District 38, Republicans still see ample room for growth in suburban LD36 where the party continue to perform strongly at the local level.

In the southern Bergen/City of Passaic based District 36, party leaders have secured their top recruit to challenge incumbent Assembly members Gary Schaer and Marlene Caride.

Save Jersey can now confirm that former Lyndhurst Commissioner Paul Passamano will run for the Republican nomination for Assembly.

Passamano served as a Commissioner in Lyndhurst at the same time that current BCRO Chairman and LD40 State Senate Candidate Paul DiGaetano represented District 36 in the Assembly. Owing to his extraordinary popularity, Passamano survived a wave of a local election which wiped out his fellow Commissioners on his slate. He remains active in local recreation and a fixture of the town.

The challenge for Passamano will be taking his popularity in the 25,000+ person township and expanding it to the entire district. District leaders insist that Republicans will again make a play for the district which, despite compassionate the Democrat blue City of Passaic, gave former South Hackensack Republican Mayor Rosina Romano a fighting chance when she came within a few percentage points of winning a seat in 2013.

Passamano faces uphill odds but, for now, Republicans have gotten their prized recruit in the district.
