Guadagno Camp Swats at ‘Struggling’ Ciattarelli After Demand for Travel, Security Cost Disclosures

The Ciattarelli for Governor campaign doesn’t want to be accused of holding anything back, Save Jerseyans.

On Monday, the Somerset Assemblyman’s team started off the week swinging by demanding that its GOP gubernatorial primary rival Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno disclose what the state is spending on her behalf on security and travel expenses related to the campaign.

“Any time the Lt. Governor makes a campaign stop – and she has made plenty over the past six and a half weeks – her campaign committee should fully reimburse taxpayers for any and all expenses incurred,” said Jack Ciattarelli in a statement shared with Save Jersey. “It strikes me as a bit hypocritical that the Lt. Governor’s stump speeches about fiscal responsibility and financial audits are sandwiched between trips up and down the Turnpike and Parkway in the back a state-owned SUV surrounded by a taxpayer-funded security detail.”

While he isn’t on the ballot this year, Chris Christie‘s travel expenses during his almost 7 1/2 years in office have been a source of frequent conversation particularly once his ill-fated national career got underway.

The Guadagno campaign dismissed its opponent’s criticism outright.

“The Assemblyman is resorting to desperate attacks because his campaign is struggling to gain support. Kim Guadagno is the only major candidate to oppose higher taxes, and she has a bold plan to audit Trenton and elect an independent attorney general,” countered Ricky Diaz, the Guadagno campaign’s spokesman.
