Corrado Overcomes DiGaetano in LD40

Kristin Corrado

One of this season’s roughest primaries goes to Kristin Corrado, Save Jerseyans.

We can now project that the Passaic County Clerk will overcome former Assemblyman and incumbent Bergen GOP Chairman Paul DiGaetano in the LD40 State Senate Republican Primary to replace the retiring Kevin O’Toole.

Paul DiGaetano

Corrado, known for her tenacious campaigning style, started the evening by besting DiGaetano in his own county’s vote-by-mail totals and then ran up large margins in key towns like Pompton Lakes (253 to 91) and Totowa, the stronghold of party boss Peter Murphy (1,595 to 59).

DiGaetano still reins as BCRO chair for another two years. What kind of relationship he has with Corrado, if any, will be closely watched by political observers (DiGaetano and O’Toole were openly enemies).

Four-county strong LD40 is a lean-red district and includes (1) the Bergen County municipalities of Allendale, Franklin Lakes, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Ridgewood, Waldwick, and Wyckoff, (2) the Morris County municipalities of Riverdale and Pequannock Township, (3) the Passaic County municipalities of Little Falls, Pompton Lakes, Totowa, Wayne, and Woodland Park, and (4) the sole Essex County township of Cedar Grove.
