REPORT: Christie (finally) endorses Guadagno on Primary Day

A blessing? Or a curse?

We may not know the answer until November, Save Jerseyans, but for now, Chris Christie is formally endorsing his #2, Kim Guadagno, in today’s NJGOP gubernatorial primary to succeed him.

“I think the biggest endorsement you can give somebody is your vote. I’ve worked with her for eight years and I believe she’s the best person in the Republican primary to represent the party in the fall and to retain the governorship,” Christie told reporters after casting his ballot in Mendham (Morris Co.) on Tuesday.

POLITICO New Jersey has the full story.

The Governor’s somewhat surprise move comes after months of seemingly open antagonism between the pair over the gas tax and other issues, culminating most recently in the LG making opposition to the Christie State House renovations a centerpiece of her campaign.

Insiders speculate that the Guadagno primary campaign consciously attempted to walk the blurred line between appearing sufficiently independent from the unpopular Republican celebrity politician and avoiding pissing him off too much given his persisting power in the governmental and fundraising spheres. How that Guadagno position changes, if at all, starting Wednesday morning is anyone’s guess assuming the LG prevails today and needs to run against an opponent, Phil Murphy, guaranteed to utter the names “Christie” and “Trump” in almost every attack ad.

ICYMI – Christie initially refused to endorse Guadagno during a January 2017 appearance on NJ 101.5….
