Steinhardt, Oroho and Space hosting GOP fundraiser for NJ-5 prospect Sarnoski

Republicans haven’t had an easy time finding a candidate to reclaim Scott Garrett’s lost NJ-5 House seat, Save Jerseyans.

An anticipated rough climate for the GOP + solid fundraising from Democrat freshman Josh Gottheimer = an expected uphill climb for any Republican challenger.

Enter Jason J. Sarnoski, a Warren County freeholder, who appears to be stepping up to the plate.

Save Jersey has learned that a $250 per person fundraiser (up to $1,000 for “hosts”) is planned for Mattar’s Bistro in Allamuchy on June 29th. You can view the invitation here.

Current named hosts include state Senator Steve Oroho, Asm. Parker Space, and Warren County GOP Chairman Dough Steinhardt.

Sarnoski formed an exploratory committee back in April.

New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District covers northern Warren County in addition to portions of Sussex, Passaic and Bergen counties.

Like we said… the process hasn’t been ideal for party operatives and decision-makers. The NRCC reportedly courted GOP power fundraiser Chuck Shotmeyer, former NJGOP Chairman and Mayor Sam Raia and Asw. Holly Schepisi (R-39) for the race but neither candidate expressed serious interest.
