Tom MacArthur’s district is among the most competitive in New Jersey by the numbers, Save Jerseyans, but his demonstrated fundraising prowess and friends in high places are making the take of overtaking him in 2018 appear extremely daunting.
On Friday, MacArthur (R, N.J.-03) announced raising $622,251.15 for the quarter ending September 30.
The South Jersey two-term federal legislator has $864,590.21 cash-on-hand.
MacArthur’s financial efforts were significantly boosted back in June when President Trump hosted a fundraiser for the New Jersey Republican at his Bedminster golf course. The President’s support is viewed as reciprocation for MacArthur’s principled leadership during the health care reform debate.
“Americans are fed up with cowardly politicians who hide from tough issues, instead of coming to the table with a commitment to solving our country’s problems. Congress has kicked the can down the road for too long on some of America’s most serious challenges. It’s time to stop talking, and to start taking action,” said MacArthur campaign spokesman Chris Russell. “Congressman MacArthur has shown he’s willing and able to work with anyone – from either party – to improve the lives of his constituents and all Americans. His continued strong fundraising numbers prove that people want a real leader representing them, not someone content on decorating a chair and throwing spitballs from the sidelines.”
The current stable of “B” grade potential Democrat challengers includes Andrew Kim, a former military advisor to Barack Obama.
