NJ-05 UPDATE: Schepisi will endorse Lonegan while Rogers pledges support for McCann

Holly Schepisi, once considered a possible contender for the NJ-05 GOP congressional nomination herself, is ready to endorse Steve Lonegan in this year’s Republican primary.

Save Jersey confirmed today’s rumor with the LD39 Assemblywoman.

A formal announcement is still forthcoming.

Lonegan and his intra-party opponent John McCann, an attorney and former councilman, are battling for the right to challenge incumbent Democrat Josh Gottheimer, the freshman Clinton insider who wrestled Scott Garrett’s seat away from the Republican Party in 2016.

The former Bogota Mayor has swept the legislative endorsements in the extreme Northern New Jersey district, but McCann boasts some institutional support of his own including Sussex Sheriff Mike Strada, and he announced the support of activist Steve Rogers earlier this week. Rogers, a Nutley Commissioner and regular guest on the Fox Business Network, serves as chairman of President Trump’s New Jersey-based grassroots supporters or “Team Trump.”

“I do not go out and endorse people that easy,” said Rogers, “but this election is so important to the President of the United States and to the Make American Great Again agenda we need someone running for office who we know can win.”
