MacArthur refuses his paycheck for shutdown’s duration

Day #1 of the 2018 federal government shutdown — only the seventh in history — is almost over and Senate Democrats don’t appear ready to budge,  Save Jerseyans, signaling the potential for a longer conflict on Capitol Hill.

A key member of New Jersey’s congressional delegation is refusing to take his pay until it’s over.

“I am requesting that Congress withhold my salary until an appropriations agreement has taken effect,” Rep. Tom MacArthur (R, NJ-03) told his Instagram followers on Saturday. “It is unacceptable to me that Members of Congress are still being paid, while our troops, federal law enforcement officers, and other government employees are not.”
