Westwood’s Dawson kicks off council run with Guadagno in the house

WESTWOOD, N.J. — The Young Republican Revolution is still afoot in Bergen County.

Progress was tangibly on display last night when Alyssa Dawson and her running mate, Councilman Ray Arroyo, kicked off their bid for Westwood Council at a cafe called “Kitchen.”

A historically Republican town, Dawson looks like a good bet to help the YR streak going which includes victories in 2015 by former Hasbrouck Heights Councilman Pete Traina, in 2016 by Glen Rock Councilman Bill Leonard, and again in 2017 by Paramus Councilman Chris Di Piazza.

Nearly 100 people packed the venue to support the candidates including Dawson’s former boss, former LG Kim Guadagno, who gave the headlining speech.

Also in attendance were Senator Gerry Cardinale and his LD39 running mates Bob Auth and Holly Schepisi as well as Bergen YR Chairman Matt Gilson and most of the executive board.

If elected, Dawson (age 24) may become New Jersey’s youngest elected female.
